    J B. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Used with 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students

CREATIVITY and INNOVATION are about connecting IDEAS and LIFE EXPERIENCES to create new solutions.

SECTION A. Introduction / Creative Words

    • LESSON 1: Introduction to creativity (using word play) with a focus on growth mindset, exploring why creativity is necessary, brainstorming strategies to enhance or inhibit creativity, and using a double entry journal for reflection.

    • LESSON 2: Engage in creative drama ("This is a...") and wordplay ("Creative Words" activity like Scattegories), while reviewing strategies for fostering creativity and reflecting on individual creative processes.

    • LESSON 3: Continue with 'Creative Words' activity, focusing on refining creative strategies, enhancing word generation skills, and reflecting on creativity through discussion and the double entry journal.

    SECTION B - Twelve

    • LESSON 4: Explore how we can assess and evaluate creativity. Students practice being creative in "Twelve" by generating unique questions for the answer 12, fostering innovative thinking and strategy development.

    • LESSON 5: Continue with the 'Twelve' activity encouraging students to draw inspiration from peers' answers to create new or varied questions leading to the answer 12. Discuss how inspiration and variation can lead to creativity.

    • LESSON 6: Engage in the final round of 'Twelve', encouraging students to find inspiration from various aspects of life (like numbers, words, and sports) and explore how unique experiences can foster creative problem-solving.

SECTION C - Do Something Different

    • LESSON 7: Introduce the 'Do Something Different' challenge, where students are asked to alter their daily routines for a week, encouraging them to observe and reflect on these changes, fostering a sense of wonder which leads to creativity.

    • CHECK IN: Conduct a daily check-in for the 'Do Something Different' challenge, allowing students to share their experiences, gain inspiration from peers, and reflect on observations and patterns in their behavior.

    SECTION D. WATCH

    • LESSON 8: Begin with a check-in on the 'Do Something Different' challenge. Then analyze videos about creative thinking ("Creative Thinking" and "Creativity is a Learnable Skill"), discussing various aspects of creativity and strategies to enhance it, followed by reflective journaling.

    • LESSON 9: Start with a check-in on the 'Do Something Different' challenge. Then analyze videos to examine Taylor Swift's creative process ("73 Questions with Taylor Swift", "Taylor Swift Interview") encouraging students to infer strategies for creativity and record ideas in their double-entry journal.

    • LESSON 10: Conduct a 'Do Something Different' challenge check-in. Then analyze videos to explore creativity through Jay-Z's songwriting process ("Jay-Z Interview: His Writing Process") and analyze "The Surprising Habits of Original Thinkers", fostering discussions on creative strategies and reflective journaling.

    • LESSON 11: Do a 'Do Something Different' check-in, then explore the nature of creativity through Sir Ken Robinson's video ("Can Creativity be Taught?"), discussing its definition and strategies for fostering creativity, followed by reflective journaling.

    • LESSON 12: Check in with a 'Do Something Different' check-in. Then, analyze a video on the "Theory of Creativity", discussing strategies for creativity in various fields and concluding with a reflective journal session.

    ..... Mar 18, 2024 Update:

Do you need to get your class back into "work mode" after Spring Break / March Break?

Problem #1: Students don't try, especially when things don't work right away. They give up.

Problem #2: Students don't do the right thing or stand up for each other. Being part of a classroom means being an active citizen. We don't always agree, but it's important to speak up.

Problem #3: Students don't know how to work in groups. Collaboration is not the same as teamwork. One person doing all of the work is not collaboration.

Problem #4: Students are mean, especially when they're upset. Good communication isn't just about presentations. It's also about getting your point across when both sides are upset, and things matter!

Problem #5: Students wait for someone else to solve their problems. Creativity is about connecting ideas in new ways. When you are faced with a tricky problem, we use creativity to create a solution. Creativity is a skill we can learn.

Problem #6: Students believe rumors, gossip, and viral posts. They don't think for themselves.

Problem #7: ALL OF THE ABOVE
